"In deference to an emphasis on this wine being “aus Ersten Lagen” (for the significance of which designation, see my introduction to this Rheinhessen report), the former nickname “ReinSchiefer” for this cuvée from Hipping, Ölberg, Pettenthal and Schloss Schwabsburg has been eliminated from its label. Parma ham, smoky black tea, musky narcissus and zesty, pit-inflected tangerine feature on a head-turning, penetrating nose. There is a wonderful sense of levity (thanks to just 10.5% alcohol) accompanied by utmost polish. The vibrant finish is consummately refreshing, mouthwateringly saline and transparent to myriad floral, herbal and mineral nuances. " - Vinous
