Weingut Schätzel

The Schätzel family has been making wine along the Rhine River for the last 650 years. From the beginning, their goal has been to produce wines that recount their place of origin with each sip. The crucible of their efforts: steep red shale vineyards such as Pettenthal, Ölberg and Hipping, lend the wines a distinct minerality and sophisticated structure. “Give nature her space,” is the winery’s motto, and under the vaulted ceilings of the estate’s 800-year-old cellar, the wines are given the time and freedom to develop in full. Caroline and Ka...

Working with Robert Vernizeau, renowned winemaker of Domaine des Perdrix and the technical adviser of Domaines Devillard, was one of the key reasons for their success. The vineyard itself can trace its roots all the way back to the 11th century.
