To create this Riesling Ice Wine, Ernst Loosen has tied in his years of experience in Washington State with his iconic Dr. L brand. This Ice Wine is extremely rich and luscious from grapes that have been frozen while still on the vine. The sugars and other dissolved solids do not freeze, but the water does, allowing a more concentrated juice to be pressed from the frozen grapes, resulting in a smaller amount of more concentrated, very sweet wine. These grapes are picked in the morning hours and pressed while they are still frozen. Only the highly concentrated, sugary part of the juice emerges from the press, resulting in a vibrant, racy dessert wine that is strikingly different from the more honeyed style of the botrytis wines.
