Paco & Lola

Paco & Lola comes from 200 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Salnes Valley in the Rías Baixas Denomination, renowned for its unique climatic characteristics that contribute to make this terroir unique: good rainfall and small temperature variations are combined with sandy loam soils of granite origin, that are lightly acidic. The vineyards are over 20 years old, and are planted in the traditional “emparrado” system (trellis) used to support the vines and address the particular climatic and geographic characteristics of the Rias Baix...

Gallica

Gallica is an artisanal Napa Valley winery focusing on limited production, hand crafted wines. The desire to personally handcraft wine from coveted sites, work side-by-side with committed growers who embrace organic and sustainable farming practices, and to explore interesting varietals, led Rosemary Cakebread to make wines under the Gallica label beginning in 2007. Her winemaking practices are simple, relying on small lot fermentation and hand punch-downs to gently coax out the lush tannins. Her wines have achieved cult status and are highly s...

Áster

Bodegas Áster was conceived with enthusiasm, wisdom and patience. To find the most appropriate estate, La Rioja Alta sought both the counsel of the old growers in the area and the advice of professors of viticulture. They studied and analyzed soils, grapes and climates in different sub-areas. Finally, Anguix, Burgos proved to be the ideal location. Their vineyards are at an altitude of 830 m above sea level, where almost 80 hectares of Tinta del País were planted.

JJ Hahn

The Hahn’s are considered Barossa royalty - almost national treasures. Maria and Johann Christian Hahn arrived in the Barossa Valley in 1845 and their land is still in Hahn family hands, six generations on. Current custodians, Jacqui and James Hahn still live in the original homestead constructed from 1846 to 1848. Yields are kept low and there are two pickings, five days apart, which gives a greater range of complexity in the final wine.

Tasca d’Almerita

The vineyards of Mozia are utterly unique. Once a Phoenician colony, this island in Marsala’s Stagnone lagoon, is an extraordinary archeological site. Here, under the Sicilia DOC, the destinies of two families—Tasca d’Almerita from Palermo and Whitaker from England—came together in this coastal ecosystem to make wine where vineyards have long played a part. Of the island’s 40 hectares, seven are planted with Grillo. In the oldest part of the vineyard, vines are still cultivated ad alberello (bush-trained), an ancient training method only found ...

EN PRIMEUR

Every spring after the year’s harvest, merchants and trade organisations arrange a tasting of barrel samples of wines that are often only six to eight months old. During this time, thousands of wine critics, journalists and wine merchants from all over the world travel to Bordeaux, where they are presented with the unfinished wines. Based on these initial samples, the wines are given a preliminary ‘score’ or wine rating according to the predicted...
