Wines of Chianti: Barone Ricasoli and Castell'in Villa
Heritage. Terroir. Tradition. From the Heart of Tuscany
Within the hallowed territory of Chianti Classico, the true potential of the Sangiovese grape is continuously being redefined by two of its most iconic and fiercely independent guardians.
Castell'in Villa: The Guardian of Chianti Classico
"Chianti Classico does not get any better or any more traditional than this." — Vinous
Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa and her husband acquired the property in 1968. Located in the southern part of the Chianti Classico region, the estate is known for producing some of the most traditionally crafted and age-worthy wines in Italy. It went a step further in differentiating itself from other producers by releasing stocks progressively into the market, once deemed ready to drink. This practice allows consumers to enjoy great wines with a certain level of maturity.
Barone Ricasoli: The Origin of Chianti Classico since 1141
"Barone Ricasoli is once again among the leading names in Tuscany." — Wine Spectator
The history of the Ricasoli family has been linked to wine since 1141, when written testimony attests that the family already possessed Brolio Castle, located within the town limits of Gaiole in Chianti. Since 1993, the current owner and President, Baron Francesco Ricasoli, has been guiding this central Tuscan company through innovative challenges, generating new ideas and concepts to render the vineyards sustainable. The ongoing study of soil types and the clonal selection of the Brolio Sangiovese are among his greatest passions.

Castell'in Villa, Chianti Classico DOCG 2020
Old-World Soul, Uncompromising Hand
One of Tuscany's most sought-after insider trophies: 100% Sangiovese, raised for about 12 months in traditional casks before patient bottle ageing. No shortcuts, no make-up—just the unvarnished voice of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The 2020 is an unusually concentrated expression that tames the appellation's structural muscle into profound poise: a deep, sun-drenched core of dark fruit framed by cool, mineral-etched earthiness.
Castell'in Villa, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2017
A Cult Riserva, Made the Old Way
Drawn exclusively from Castell'in Villa's finest sun-drenched, southeast-facing plots, this Riserva undergoes an extraordinary 36 months in neutral Slavonian oak botti. The 2017 has yielded a small quantity of immense textural concentration and brooding authority—a wine that eschews modern, plush fruit in favour of savoury, tertiary-leaning complexity. This is a deeply intellectual Chianti Classico that demands, and richly rewards, serious cellaring.

Barone Ricasoli, Casalferro Merlot Toscana IGT
Premium Merlot. Consistently Acclaimed.
Casalferro has been a visionary project since 1993: a small-production premium Merlot in the heart of Chianti Classico, drawn from three spectacular high-altitude sites—Casalferro, Pecchierino and Sodacci. Here the plush exuberance of Merlot is pulled taut over the stony, mineral-rich soils of Gaiole, gaining tension, lift and a savoury, graphite-etched spine. Consistently acclaimed by the world's leading critics, it stands among the finest-value Super Tuscans—a genuine vin de terroir of profound depth, polish and age-worthiness, built for the cellar and the serious collector alike.

Ricasoli, Castello di Brolio Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione — Vertical Case 2010 / 2011 / 2013 / 2015 / 2016 / 2018
The Flagship Vertical of Gaiole Terroir
The flagship Chianti Classico of the estate, Castello di Brolio is the grand masterpiece crafted only in the finest vintages. This is a geological archive, blending fruit from Brolio's three most representative soils: Macigno del Chianti (sandstone), Scaglia Toscana (Galestro) and Monte Morello (Alberese). Raised for 18 months in tonneaux, the oak shapes its immense intensity and texture without sacrificing the classic, streamlined lines. This library collection offers a chance to trace a decade of Brolio across its prime drinking window—a vibrant, deeply historical monument to this ancestral terroir.
Barone Ricasoli, Roncicone Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 2021
Marine Fossils Shaped. Rich, Polished Fruit.
One of the single-vineyard Gran Selezione trio, Roncicone is defined by its Marine Deposit soils—ancient sea beds of Pliocene origin, rich in shells and fossils that lend the wine its signature chalky minerality, savoury tension and crystalline freshness. Aged in 500-litre tonneaux, it is a refined, textbook Sangiovese that reads its terroir with rare clarity: rich aromas, distinctive elegance and fine mineral grip, lifted by hints of wild cherry, mint, blue flower and blood orange. This is another, more polished face of fine Chianti Classico—an extremely pure and generous red, layered with delicate aromas.
Barone Ricasoli, Colledilà Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 2021
Limestone-Rich Authority. Brooding Fruit.
Another label in the single-vineyard Gran Selezione trio, Colledilà represents Brolio's clayey-limestone soils, farmed since 1832 from a high-elevation site at 380 metres. Matured 22 months in 500-litre tonneaux, this is a wine of sheer power, its dark, energetic fruit framed by beautiful, layered aromas of crushed stone and spice. The 2021 vintage offers immense concentration and brooding personality—ripe black cherry and blackberry carried on a slate-like core, for a deeply savoury, ancestral expression of Sangiovese.
