The legend began when five families joined together to share their passion for wine and set up the estate in 1890. They named the first wine "Gran Reserva 890" to remember this special day. Today, the winery is widely considered as one of the finest estates in the region, producing classic and traditional Riojas, including three Reserva wines, Alberdi, Arana and Ardanza (the 2005 vintage is the most highly-rated Spanish wine, from the Top 100 Wines 2014, in Wine Spectator). These wines are marked by a long aging in used American oak barrels following the most strict Riojan tradition and to be released only when they are ready to drink. The current vintage of the Gran Reserva 890 is 2004 and Gran Reserva 904 is 2005!
